Who is this Kriti Sen Sharma anyway?
Hi I am Kriti Sen Sharma, and I started (and continue to write for) GoHatke. On the surface, I am as conventional a person as you ever saw. A high-school topper, a graduate from IIT Kharagpur, a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech, and (currently) a Lead Engineer at GE Healthcare in Wisconsin, USA. Your average bright engineering type, right? But wait… Deep beneath, I am also a writer. And, while spending the Fall of 2010 in California, I realized that while I was successful in the conventional terms, I also wanted to establish myself as a writer. I realized that the conventional social forces of motivation and career growth (i.e. advice and influences of my family, friends and society in general) would never steer me towards my love of writing. I realized that in order to fulfill my dream of becoming a writer, I had to do something on my own. I realized that I had to become hatke.
What is ‘Hatke’? And what’s the big deal with that?
Hatke is a Hindi colloquialism for ‘unconventional’. If, like me, you ever wanted to be more than just a successful engineer, doctor, or manager; if there is an artist, a poet, a musician, or an entrepreneur lurking somewhere deep down within your psyche — you must know how difficult it is to achieve those hidden aspirations. Unfortunately, for you or me, we are misfits living in a convention-loving world. There is always a wise soul stepping up to give you advice — “You should pursue this field of study”, or “You should follow this career”. No one tells you to follow your dream, to take risks in life, and to do something out of the ordinary. So it is up to YOU to decide — are you happy living a secure conventional life, or do you want to take risks, “go-hatke” and live life on your own terms.
How does GoHatke come into the picture?
Being unconventional or hatke is not easy. At every step, there will be a ton of people who will try to influence you to walk the ‘beaten’ conventional path.
